Potato cake (Gateau di patate)

This potato cake is really delicious, quick and easy to make. Just a few simple ingredients and your super tasty dinner is ready! It can be also an original alternative to usual mashed potatoes. Try it and you'll love it :-)

To make this potato cake you need:

  • 500g (18 oz) potatoes 
  • 50g (2 oz) butter + 2tbsp melted butter (to put on top of the cake)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 100g (4 oz) ham
  • 100g (4 oz) sliced cheese + 1tbsp grated cheese
  • bread crumbs

Boil the potatoes and mash them

Add butter and mix well until it is completely melted

Add the eggs, milk, grated cheese and mix well again

Cut the ham in small pieces and add it to the potatoes mixture. Add some salt and black pepper as well

Stir well

Grease a baking form with some oil

Place 1/2 of the potato and ham mixture in the baking form

Put the slices of cheese on top of the potatoes mixture

Put the rest of the potato and ham mixture on top of the cheese

Sprinkle the bread crumbs 

Pour the melted butter over the bread crumbs

Preheat the oven to 180C/356F and bake the cake for 40 minutes. Let it cool a little and enjoy your tasty dinner :-) Bon appetit and thanks for your visit!
