Italian red wine cookies recipe

These cookies are very unusual. They are made with red wine! No eggs, no butter just a few simple ingredients and you'll have delicious and super crispy cookies:-) The alcohol evaporates while baking but the delicate taste of the wine remains and it makes these sweets really irresistible. Give them a try and you'll love them!

You need:

- 100ml (3 fl oz) red wine
- 100ml (3 fl oz) sunflower oil
- 100g (1/2 cup) sugar
- 400g (14 oz) plain flour
- 1tsp baking powder
- 1/2tsp cinnamon

Combine the red wine, sugar and oil

Add the flour, baking powder and cinnamon

Mix well to get a soft and smooth dough

Take small pieces (a walnut size) of the dough and hand-roll them to cigar-like ropes

Join the edges together to form a ring

Coat the rings in sugar

Place them onto the baking sheet. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F and bake the cookies for 15 minutes

And here they are! Tasty, not too sweet, crispy, delicate and very unusual:-) Bon appetit!
